This is the second in our four-part series exploring key developments in EU rural and agricultural policy.
In December 2024, Warsaw hosted the first coordination meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council presidencies. The meeting brought together the presidency trio – Poland, Denmark, and Cyprus – to define shared priorities that will guide EU policy in the coming years.
At the heart of their agenda were three key objectives:
-
Strengthening cooperation among EU member states
-
Tackling shared challenges in agriculture and fisheries
-
Building sustainable, competitive, and resilient sectors
By aligning their efforts, the trio aims to ensure greater continuity and impact in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). This coordinated approach is designed to boost collaboration across Europe, while also reinforcing the role of farmers and fishers in building a resilient and future-ready food system.
The presidencies underlined that both agriculture and fisheries are not only vital for Europe’s economy but also for food security, environmental protection, and rural and coastal development. Their shared priorities will help shape EU decisions that directly support farming communities, fishing sectors, and consumers alike.
